Should we hold off on estate planning until the financial markets stabilize?
November 18, 2008

Q: We were thinking about starting our estate planning, but with the financial markets so unsettled, should we hold off for now?

A: Estate planning is about more than just tax and financial planning for your heirs to be. There are very significant issues to consider, not the least of which is who will be your heirs and to what extent will they receive your assets. Of significant import is also the issue of guardians for your children and a decision as to who will manage your estate for your children. Everyone should have a will or revocable living trust. The state of the financial markets should not dictate your decision to proceed.
